Croatia is one of the most visited summer travel destination in Europe; it’s ideal for the sea and sun lovers, thank to its gorgeous cost and beautiful beaches. But this country is also loved by the naturalists: so famous are the marvellous waterfalls of the Pletvice National Park, situated on the West side; interesting are also Trogir and the Islands of Brac e Hvar.
The Dubrovnik Stronghold, rebuild after the Serbian bombings, is the fist and most beautiful example of medieval heritages.
Istria is a very attractive region well connected to Italy, due to its notable proximity to Trieste.
On the Southern side, you can admire some lovely localities like Piran, Humag, and Porec with its splendid basilica and unforgettable beaches; Rovini is famous for the St. Eufemia’s Cathedral and deeply typical houses overlooking the sea. Another town that we recommend to visit is Pola, that proudly shows its Roman origin by its Temple and the Roman amphitheatre.
Spalato is the second city in order of size and one of best points of departure for visiting the Dalmatian islands and coast: this ancient natural harbour offers several ideas of interest, starting from Diocleziano’s Palace (built around 300 AD), going on with Crisogono-Cipci’s Palace and the Sveti Duje’s Cathedral. All the surrounding area, with its splendid shops and locals, is every time crowded of Croatians and tourists.
Northwards, you can visit the town of Trogir, admiring the colossal St. Lawrence’s Cathedral and the St. Dominique’s Monastery. Trogir has been declared Unesco World Heritage.
From Spalato you can also take off for the Dalmatian Islands: one of the most suggestive is certainly Brac, with its bright resorts like Bol, where is situated the “Zlatni Rat” (the golden tooth, literally), so defined in figurative sense because it’s a long strip of golden sand extending to the crystalline sea water.
Other beautiful and interesting islands are: Hvar, Starigrad, Vis and Lavstovo.
Not far from Bihac and Gospic cities, there’s another Unesco World Heritage in Croatia: The Lakes National Park of Plitvice. Their lakes had been formed by the Black and the White Rivers and the park was founded in 1949. Dipped in a wonderful natural context, among waterfall, caves, rich vegetation and animals, it represents one of the principal tourist attractions therefore it undoubtedly deserves a tour.
